Start of #TolstoyTogether Virtual Reading of War & Peace

  • Book + Bottle 17 6th Street North St. Petersburg, FL, 33701 United States (map)

WAR & PEACE

We’re starting this flexible book club with a virtual, communal reading of Tolstoy’s War and Peace. We're reading War & Peace together for 85 days, starting 15 September 2021, following author Yiyun Li's #TolstoyTogether program. When this is over, we'll probably do another classic, but it’s definitely TBD.

The Schedule
The aim of the book club is to read together daily. I hope the reading—a gentle schedule: 12-15 pages a day, around 30 minutes—can provide an anchor this fall, when transitions bring hope, thrill, and sometimes uncertainty.

How It Will Work
The book club will begin on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. It is free and open to all. Every morning, Yiyun Li will share notes on the day's reading on her publisher's website, as well as on A Public Space's Twitter and Instagram accounts with the hashtag #TolstoyTogether. I hope you will share your thoughts and responses, and ask questions using #TolstoyTogether. An overview of the week's reading will be included in A Public Space's weekly Saturday newsletter.

We'll also be using the discussion section of the “Bookclubz” app to discuss the book as we go. I'm happy to plan physical meetups throughout the 85 days, and we're definitely doing an in person celebration when we finish the book (from my calculations, it looks like that's around December 9th!)

What You Will Need
A copy of War and Peace! Any translation will do. I hope you will also order a copy of Tolstoy Together: 85 Days of War and Peace from us!
