Wine Review: 2015 Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano
As a self described creature of habit, Wednesday dinners have always been about comfort food or code for pasta night. On a recent cool and damp Wednesday at 7:30, I required all things to round out that comfort food need in the form of a deftly put together tasty pasta dish and just the right wine. 30 minutes later we have orecchiette and broccoli rabe with sausage accompanied with a 2015 Avignonesi Nobile ; what might be described as the food & wine version of the perfect arranged marriage. I have always been a fan of Avignonesi wines, especially the Nobile that is 100% Sangiovese and what I believe is a perfect expression of Sangiovese and a wine that showcases incredible versatility. A medium to full bodied red offering hints of mediterranean herbs and deep black cherry and plum tones, brought the sausage and broccoli flavors to the forefront and I was in food comfort heaven.
Avignonesi owner, Virginie Saverys, has spearheaded a movement to produce organic wine in Montepulciano. The Nobile consistently receives fantastic reviews from the wine press and should as it consistently overdelivers. This 2015 is drinking wonderfully now and I expect will do so for the foreseeable future.
