Bubble in the Sun, a review by Patricia Mastry, March 2020
I am thoroughly enjoying the book Bubble In the Sun by Christopher Knowlton. The book is the second I have purchased from my new favorite bookstore (Blue Zones Kitchen a cookbook by Dan Buettner was first). Knowlton’s book is a fascinating look back into the gilded years of Florida’s explosion into the playground for the rich and famous of the roaring twenties. The book carefully charts a course from swamps and dirt roads filled with alligators and mosquitoes straight to fabulous hotels and resorts around them that put Florida on the map. It also lays out the events, short-sided decisions and financial follies that helped push the country into the Great Depression. Minus a virus, the book brings all too clearly to sight how quickly the actions of a few imperil the lives of the many. Great read. Highly recommend!
