New Release Notes 4/5/22: The Candy House by Jennifer Egan
The Candy House by Jennifer Egan
“If Goon Squad was organized like a concept album, The Candy House incorporates Electronic Dance Music’s more disjunctive approach. The parts are titled: Build, Break, Drop. With an emphasis on gaming, portals, and alternate worlds, its structure also suggests the experience of moving among dimensions in a role-playing game.”
Book + Bottle has its fair share of favorite authors that its booksellers love to rave about; from classic writers like James Baldwin and Kurt Vonnegut to modern day masters like Carmen Maria-Machado and Lauren Groeff, we have the ones that speak to us like no other. Add Jennifer Egan to that list. Her book, Visit From The Goon Squad, can barely stay on our shelves thanks to bookseller Andi’s constant beatifying of it’s stunning narratives and incredible storytelling. Suffice to say, we have been fiending for Egan’s latest, a sibling book to her previous but a great standalone tome in of itself full of discussions on our current moment, technology, and interconnectedness. We’ll be talking about this one for a while.
